WELCOME TO BW MISSIONS
My friends and I flew to Las Vegas, spur of the moment, when I did the unthinkable. I popped the question.
However this time, it wasn’t about getting down on one knee. Nor did it involve a photographer with happy tears.
Actually, I wasn’t even in Las Vegas at all.
I did make an offer though for a professional marriage (one I always hoped to establish as I didn’t want to ever build this company alone).
Carson Morell accepted, and that wasn’t the only action he took – a few weeks prior he dropped out of college doubling down on making this vision a reality not just for himself but the others we impact along the way both internally at a team level and externally with the clients we serve with our different products.
So, what did I learn during this process, and why should you care?
First, I want to thank those that were instrumental in helping me think through this process.
- Jacob Garlick
- Austin Rief, Alex Lieberman, & Tyler Denk
- Max Friedman
- Katelin Kennedy
- Allen Gannett
- Mark Green
- Together, are you both aligned on the long term vision and willing to give 110%? Meaning, why get into a partnership if the other person is 80% committed and can’t see what you see?
- Do you share similar values on a core level? And can you see yourself spending many years with this person?
- Do they make you feel heard, valued, and appreciated?
I couldn’t be happier to have someone to build out this vision to help others belong with. He matches my intensity and speed, aligns with my values, compliments my weaknesses, and fills in my gaps.
I was on a train to NYC [pre-pandemic] and I saw this woman and her husband at this table. I was in a talkative mood, so I struck up a conversation. She was in the venture space, former Director of Finance at Tory Burch, and had a strategic mind. I did my best to speak “finance” with her, which I clearly could have used some more domain expertise in, yet still somehow befriended her.
Anyhow, Amanda Jogia was her name, and is someone who has had more impact on our business than she realizes. After the train ride, we spoke, and she helped Carson and myself do financial modeling for 3 years out. This modeling forced us to think about product lines, roles and hires, and more.
Moral of the story: Befriend anyone and everyone.
THE ONLY PERSON YOU HAVE TO PROVE IS YOU
It’s sometimes through the process of achieving for the wrong reasons where you learn to start achieving for the right reasons — achieving in a way that feels aligned for you.
Whatever is aligned for your path requires acceptance from no one but yourself. Check out our recent article here!
GOOD DESIGN IS EVERYTHING
We live in a world that’s become increasingly fueled by visual media. The rise of social media has completely transformed how we consume and understand the content. A great photo, an excellent thumbnail, or an engaging visual can turn an average piece of content into a viral phenomenon.
And this is why, more than ever, it’s critical for your brand to have powerful and cohesive graphic design.
Thinking critically about the graphic design behind your brand and exactly how it represents your organization’s values is a necessary part of brand architecture.
